AGA decided to renovate an older building for its new office and manufacturing facility. The existing structure, set on 26 acres, was built in 1975 as a data center and featured masonry and precast panel exterior walls. For the new design, “energy age”–style diagonal precast assemblies were replaced by contemporary elements—a high-performance curtain wall glazing with metal canopy overhangs to block sun glare. The interior buildout included cleanrooms, light manufacturing, laboratories, offices, cafeteria, fitness center and locker rooms, lecture hall, and dock space. The construction work was completed in a little more than nine months.
